Kostya is the first child in his family, his birth was long-awaited. The boy was born on June 18, 2009. Health problems started to happen from the very first months of his life. Kostya underwent a kidney surgery when he was 3 months old. A year later aphthous stomatitis broke out. Doctors couldn’t cure it for several months, and the disease was reoccuring several times. Otopyosis manifested almost at the same time, Kostya fells ill with it every month now. Only 3 years after the problems started to happen, the boy was transferred for an examination to the RCCH (Moscow), where he was diagnosed with primary immunodeficiency (Nijmegen syndrome).
To stay alive, Kostya is in need of a regular therapy with immunoglobulin. However, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (preferably, from a relative donor) is the only radical method of treatment of his disease. Fortunately, the boy had a sister being born recently. At her birth, the required amount of umbilical cord blood was taken for a possible cure of the boy. But allocation of concentrate of the stem cells and carrying out various tests are also needed. It is also necessary to keep the stem cells in a specialized medical institution (stem cell bank) until all the issues concerning the surgery are resolved. All the actions mentioned above cost 52,870 rubles in total. Kostya’s family cannot afford to pay this amount of money.
